Mientras la gran mayoría de chilenos dormían el 27 de febrero de 2010 a las 03.34 hora local y a 63 kilómetros de Cauquenes, región de Biobio, el suelo empezó a sacudirse, era el inicio de un fuerte terremoto que alcanzó los 8,5 grados en la escala de Richter.
Pero Chile no es Haití y aguanto bien el seísmo a pesar de que tiene numerosos daños materiales y tal como ha confirmado su Ministro del Interior, la cifra de muertos ahora mismo es de 214 que aumentarán con el paso de las horas.
Tras el seísmo se declaro un alto riesgo de tsunami en todo el Pacífico y en las islas próximas a la costa chilena como en el Archipiélago de Juan Fernández olas de hasta 3 metros se adentraron hasta 20 en la isla produciendo destrozos y víctimas mortales.
Destacar que las redes sociales como Twitter o Facebook o el mismo Google, han jugado un papel importante tanto en la inmediatez de la información como en facilitar rescates y contactos entre familia.
